Description
No. 118 on London Road is a former house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has undergone extensions and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with some parts exposed and brick nogging. The exterior is finished with brick casing that is whitewashed and roughcast, and there is some weatherboarding present. The roof is a tiled half hipped gambrel style. The structure consists of two bays and was likely originally designed with a lobby entry. It has one storey and an attic, with glazing bar fixed windows.
On the left side, there are exposed timber posts, studs, a tension brace, and a lintel above a blocked doorway. The right side includes a brick pilaster buttress. There is an attic window at the front set in a reveal with a slightly cambered head, and a central ridge stack. Attached to the front is a single-storey addition made of roughcast brick, featuring a hipped slate roof and shop windows. There is also a weatherboarded lean-to extension on the left with a pantile roof, along with some rear additions. Inside, the building has a clasped purlin roof.
