Description
The Cage on the Pond is a lock-up building from the 18th century, which was repaired in 1810 and restored in 1893. It is constructed of cement-rendered brick and has a circular shape with a domical top. The building features a timber door made of four planks with pointed heads and strap hinges. There are small openings on either side of the door, secured with iron bars and set in deep reveals. Above these openings are two stone tablets, one inscribed with the date 1810 and the phrases "DO WELL. AND FEAR NOT." and "BE SOBER. BE VIGILANT." There is an additional small opening at the rear, a plinth at the base, a band at cornice level, and a ball finial on top.
