Description

A symmetrical pair of early 19th-century brick cottages, located on the southwest side of Woodhall Lane in Shenley. The cottages are colour-washed and have hipped thatched roofs, exhibiting a picturesque "Cottage orné" style. They are one storey in height, with an attic space. Each cottage has two windows facing the front; these are glazing bar sash windows set in deep reveals with cambered heads. There are lunettes in the attic, with eyebrow detailing to the thatching. Steps lead back to entrances on either side. The plank doors have cambered heads. A central pair of capped brick chimney shafts rises above the roofline, with two diagonally set squares to each chimney. The thatch has shallow segmental arched eaves on the return walls. A one-storey tiled extension is attached to the right side of No. 2. The interiors were not inspected.
