Description
The Thatched Lodge is a former lodge to Kitwells, now functioning as a house. It was built in the mid-19th century and features red brick with black brick dressings. The building has a thatched roof supported by timber. It is designed in a Gothic cottage orne style and has an L-shaped plan with one storey. There are semi-octagonal bays at the ends of the L. The windows have pointed arched gauged brick heads and there are black brick courses at the impost level and above the arches. The structure has a plinth and the projecting thatch is supported on crude timber posts at regular intervals, with segmental arches between the posts creating a rustic peristyle. There are entrances on the right return and at the rear. The building has diagonally set stacks, with two on the front ridge and one at the angle. The interior has not been inspected.
