Description

Lyndhurst is a large house built around 1850, with parts rebuilt in the mid-20th century. It was extended around 1900 and again in the later 20th century. The building features stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, stone and cement rendered dressings, and slate hipped roofs. It is two storeys high with a four-window front. The central entrance includes a Tuscan porte-cochere supported by paired columns, with a fanlight above the door and sidelights. The windows are sashes with wedge lintels, and the first floor has blind boxes. A modillioned stone cornice runs along the top, and raised panelled quoins are present at the corners.

On the left side, there is a 1:3:1 window arrangement, with ground floor French windows. A mutuled pediment and balcony are positioned above a central bow window on the ground floor. The quoins step back to the flanking bays, and ridge stacks are located on either side of the pediment. The right side features an extruded stack towards the front. The central section has been rebuilt and stuccoed, showcasing a large multi-paned staircase window. The rear of the house has five bays similar to the front and left, with raised quoins separating the two right-hand bays.

A one-storey conservatory was added to the left front, a one-storey ballroom addition was made to the right around 1900, and a one-storey kitchen block was added to the rear right in the 20th century. Inside, there are 19th-century plaster mouldings on the ground floor. The house is set within terraced grounds and was known as Ridgehurst until 1934.
