Description
Nos. 48 and 50 on Peach Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the early 16th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame that is encased in brick, topped with a tiled roof that has half-hipped and gabled sections. It has a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays and was formerly jettied on the south side. There is a large single extension at the rear that is of no special interest.
The building stands two storeys high with an attic. The brick front facing the road includes one small flat-headed dormer on the right and boxed eaves. On the first floor, there are four 2-light casement windows from the 20th century, which have glazing bars. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front that is also of no special interest.
Inside, some of the timber frame is exposed. The joists over the ground floor are chamfered and feature lamb's tongue stops, along with a heavy moulded beam that has billet ornament at the north end. The first floor includes jowled posts and a queen post roof.
