Description
No. 33 Rose Street is a late 15th-century hall house that has been refurbished in 1958 and is now a small house. It features a timber frame with painted stucco infill and some brickwork, topped by a steeply pitched gabled roof covered with old tiles. The building has a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays, with the former hall located in the southeast bay. It was originally jettied at the front facing the road. The house has two storeys and an attic.
On the road front, there is one gabled bay, and the ground floor is underbuilt in brick, with the ends of the jetty joists still visible. A large central window with small panes is present on the ground floor. The upper floors display exposed timber framing with long tension braces on each level, featuring a 20th-century three-light diamond leaded casement window on the first floor and a similar two-light window in the attic. The side elevation on the southwest has been rebuilt in brick.
Inside, the fine timber frame is exposed, with wide ceiling joists in the northwest bay and later joists in the former hall. The roof features queen struts, and many carpenter's marks are visible in their correct sequence.
