Description
The Metropolitan Public House is a hall house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the mid-15th century and has been altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame that is encased in painted render and pebbledash, topped with an old tiled roof that is gabled and hipped on the left side. It has an L-plan shape consisting of two or three framed bays, with significant alterations made to the ground floor. The structure is two storeys high and includes a cellar, with a chimney located at the rear.
The front facing the road has three irregular sash windows with glazing bars, measuring four panes wide on the first floor and six panes wide on the ground floor. To the left of the centre, there is a six-panel door set within a doorcase that features panelled pilasters, small brackets, and a flat hood. Inside, most of the timber frame is exposed on the first floor, showcasing jowled posts and large tension braces.
