Description
Forge Cottage is likely an early 17th-century house, extended in the 19th century and altered in the 20th. It is timber-framed with whitewashed and rendered brick nogging and brick additions. The first floor is weatherboarded, and the roof is tiled. The original house comprised two bays, although a one-bay extension was added to the left in the 19th century, featuring a slightly higher ridge line. A later 17th-century brick chimney breast, built outside the frame, is located to the right of the original house. The entrance is in the original left bay. The windows are 20th-century leaded casements, and the ground floor openings have timber lintels. Timber posts are exposed on the ground floor to the left and centre of the original house. An extension to the rear exists. The interior has not been inspected. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the historic character of the area.
