Description
Baytree Cottages comprise two dwellings, originally a public house. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, with later additions and alterations in the 20th century. The construction is timber frame, with rendered and weatherboarded external walls and a tiled roof. The central section features a three-bay lobby entrance. The cottages are two storeys high, with entrances incorporated into lean-to porches with weatherboard cladding. Windows are casements; the left-hand window has C20 leaded lights, those above the entrance are also leaded, and the right-hand window has timber frames with glazing bars on the first floor. Weatherboarding is visible on the left-hand side. A central ridge stack is rendered with cement. Wall plates and purlins are exposed in the left gable. Lean-to additions extend from both gable ends. The interior has not been inspected. The building operated as the Sovereign Public House until around 1880.
