Description

Summerswood Farm House is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the mid to late 19th century and 20th century. The original structure features an exposed timber frame with brick nogging above a brick base, while the extensions are made of brick. The entire building is either whitewashed or rendered, and it has slate and tile roofs. Originally, the house was L-shaped with a three-bay lobby entry front. It has been extended and re-roofed, now featuring gables at the front. The house is two storeys high, with a central entrance that includes a gabled, weatherboarded porch. On either side of the entrance are 20th-century two and three-light casement windows, while the first floor has horizontal sliding sashes and a central casement. The front has three gables, with the central gable being much smaller and featuring sham timber studs. There is a large square central stack on the middle ridge, which is corbelled out below the original cap and was extended upwards in the 19th century. A catslide roof covers a brick addition to the left, and the original rear wing to the left has an external stack on the rear gable. There is an entrance to the rear on the left return, and 20th-century casements on the right return. The interior has not been inspected.
