Description
Barnet Lodge is a house built in the early 19th century as a lodge for High Canons in Shenley. It is constructed of whitewashed brick and features a hipped slate roof in a Gothick style. The building is one storey high and has a semi-octagonal shape facing the road, with three windows set under pointed rubbed brick arches. The windows have decorative glazing with trefoils.
On the left side, there is one similar window and an entrance with a segmental head and a chamfered surround, leading to a small gabled porch. The lodge has a plinth, deep eaves, and a central stack with a cornice band. At the rear, there is a flat-roofed extension. The interior has not been inspected.
The property is complemented by later 19th-century cast iron gates, railings, and piers. These include two square piers with decorative trellis work and ball finials, all made of iron, along with railings that feature spear heads and ramp down from the sides to the center.
