Description

The house is a mid-17th century timber-frame building, which was cased in brick and extended during the 18th century, and altered in the 20th century. It is located on the south side of Buckettsland Lane in Shenley. Originally L-shaped with a lobby entry, it is now a 3-bay, 1-storey and attic building. The central entrance has a simple timber and tiled porch. The ground floor has casements, and there are three half-dormers breaking the eaves with raked roofs, each containing 2 and 3-light casements. The roof is hipped, and a 17th-century axial stack is located centrally. An original wing extends to the rear right with a slightly lower ridge. This wing has two storeys, a central entrance, and casements, with one sash window to the left. Ground-floor windows have cambered heads. An 18th-century extension fills the inner angle of the L-shape and projects to the rear left, featuring casements, some with cambered heads, and a hipped roof with a stack at the junction with the rear wing. A 20th-century glazed conservatory has been added to the right and is linked to the barn. Inside, the house features exposed timbers and a binding beam with a stopped chamfer. The roof has clasped purlins. Attached to the southwest is an 18th-century barn, timber-framed and weatherboarded with some brickwork, and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has four bays and a projecting gabled threshing bay with a clasped purlin roof.
