Description
Stanley House is a 17th-century house that was extended in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with brick nogging set on a stone plinth, while the extension and one rebuilt bay of the original house are made of brick. The roof is tiled. The house has a three-room lobby-entry plan and is two stories tall, with the extension to the left. The right-hand two bays are timber-framed, originally designed with three panels high, which includes one storey and low attic walls, with the right-hand bay serving as a flush cross wing. The eaves were later raised by one panel in timber-framing, and the gable was cut off at collar level to create a continuous roof. The principal rafters of the cross wing are tenoned at the foot into a tension brace between the old wall head and the first-floor bressumer, rather than into the tie beam.
The windows include a three-light mullion and transom on the ground floor, and a mullion-only design on the first floor, both featuring cambered heads. The front door has been replaced with a window, and there is an off-centre window to the right above the original gable, with a central window on the first floor. The third bay of the timber-framed house on the left was rebuilt in the early 20th century using brick, which includes a door and a two-light casement window. The brick extension has a three-light wooden casement window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor, with its eaves slightly higher than those of the main house. The interior has not been inspected.
