Description
Spring Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, located in Blaisdon village. It is a timber-framed building with a rendered plinth and a machine-made tile roof. The original plan consisted of two rooms, with an external end chimney and two floors, the upper floor largely contained within the roof space. The house has a gable facing the road; a ground-floor window apparently replaces a former door. The entrance is on the right side elevation, featuring a three-panel frame with tension braces to the corner posts, creating an effect of three windows, including a narrow one beside the door. A rear upper panel remains wattle and daub. The first-floor joists are tenoned through the studs and pegged, and the two first-floor rooms are at slightly different levels. A large brick gable chimney is present, and an adjoining stone slated oven is also visible. An extension was built in 1984 to replace an earlier 20th-century addition.
