Description
The barn at Tanhouse Farm dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth with a tiled roof. The structure features three bays with a central threshing floor. The plinth is fairly high and made of rubble stone, while the walls above are boarded; the weatherboarding at the back has been replaced with butt-jointed boards, and the gable end is covered in corrugated iron.
The central double doors, which are just short of the eaves, have a cambered timber lintel. The wall framing is largely unaltered, consisting of two panels high with tension braces. On one side of the threshing floor, there is a timber sill with tension braces to the door posts, although the ends of the sill have been cut away for access. The threshing floor itself is stone paved. The trusses feature angle struts and collars, two pairs of purlins, and a square ridge, with wind-bracing on the end bays. The barn is included for its group value.
