Description
Walnut Cottage is a detached house dating from the early 18th century. It features a timber frame with brick nogging and a rubble stone plinth, while the right gable is made of brick, and the roof is tiled. The house has a two-room plan and is one storey plus an attic, with half of the attic space incorporated into the roof. The timbers are slender, with two panels high, and the joists were originally tenoned through the studs and pegged.
The front door, located near the right-hand end, is boarded and has a weather-board hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door are two 2-light wood casement windows set within a frame, featuring iron opening casements. There are also two gabled dormers with similar windows. The brick on the right gable has replaced the original timber frame, and the chimney projects from this gable. To the left, there is a lean-to extension at the front covered with double Roman tiles, as well as a further stone lean-to on the gable. The left-hand gable has a chimney that is integrated within the main structure of the building.
