Description
The War Memorial, located at the junction with Monmouth Road, was erected around 1920 and is attributed to Walter Davis of Hereford. It is constructed from ashlar stone and features a lion couchant, which is boldly carved from a single piece of stone, with its right paw resting over its outstretched left paw. The lion is set on a rectangular plinth that stands about 1.4 meters high. The plinth has plain clasping corner projections that set back once at the top. On one long side, a central panel projects slightly and is adorned with a carved laurel wreath. At the base, there is a double projecting plinth, and the ends of the memorial have narrow recesses between the projections. Notably, this memorial does not list any names; instead, it is inscribed above the central panel with '1914 - 1918' and below the wreath with 'AND ALSO OF 1939 - 1945'. The entire structure is set on a wide concrete base.
