Description

These three cottages form a terrace, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. They are built of random rubble with timber framing, rendered panels, and a tiled roof. The cottages are arranged in a row parallel to the road, and are two storeys high, with the upper floor largely within the roof space. A high stone plinth runs along the front, partly retaining a wall. The left-hand end exhibits close-studded timber framing with some wide studs and a centre rail; the main floor beams are tenoned through the studs. There are two 2-light casement windows on this side. Above, there are two 20th-century gabled dormers. The left gable is built of stone, with an end visible on the front, featuring a 4-pane wide sash window to the upper floor. A large rendered chimney breast has tiled offsets. An entrance is located in the back wall. The cottage to the right has a timber-framed front, two panels high, set on a 1-metre high plinth. The sill is set slightly higher than on the left, at window sill level for this section, as the ground floor level is lower. Steps cut through the plinth lead up to the central dwelling. This section has a timber casement window to the left and two to the right, with late 19th century gabled dormers above. Two brick chimney stalks rise from the ridge. An entrance to the right-hand dwelling is on the right return.
