Description
This is a detached two-room cottage, rebuilt in 1852 following a fire on 19th October 1851. The rebuilding was undertaken by the Norwich Union Fire Office, with William R. Causton as their agent, and William Fream as the builder. A datestone reads, “THE POUND HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE 19th OCTOBER 1851 REBUILT FOR HANNAH BRIGHT AGED 71 YEARS BY THE NORWICH UNION FIRE OFFICE 1852 AGENT W. R. CAUSTON SURVEYOR GLOUCESTER, WILLIAM FREAM BUILDER”. The construction is squared stone, with a brick chimney on the side. The roof is tiled and has shaped bargeboards with bands of ordinary and shaped tiles. The cottage has a gable facing the road, featuring two-light timber mullioned windows on both the ground and upper floors. Each light has a lancet head, ikon casements, and diamond-leaded lights with margin glazing, and no lintels. A boarded door is set within a small timber porch with a tiled gabled roof. A large datestone is positioned below the upper window.
