Description

Marle Cottage is a house that forms part of a row, dating from the early 16th century to the early 19th century. It features a timber-framed cross wing on the left, with the right side constructed of stone and rendered, topped with a tiled roof. The building has a 'T'-shaped plan, which may have originally included a cross passage, with the main part running parallel to the road and standing two stories tall.

The entrance is located on the right side of the main section. On the first floor, there are three timber windows with cambered heads and two lights, fitted with iron casements. The ground floor has two similar windows, along with an additional door at the left-hand end. The cross wing on the right has close-studding gables on both floors, a low bressumer, and lacks center rails. Some studs are missing on the ground floor, which features a three-light casement window on the left. The first floor originally had a large window that is now partly infilled with a two-light casement, positioned slightly off-center. The close studding continues on the right side, leading up to a large stone chimney breast, beyond which is large square panelling on the first floor. The rear wall of the main section is timber-framed. There is an attached house on the left, indicated by a change in the roof line, but it is not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
