Description

Upper Boxbush is an early 17th-century farmhouse. It features a timber-framed structure resting on a random rubble plinth, with painted brick nogging and some surviving wattle and daub. The roof is tiled and the building is arranged in an L-plan, consisting of three rooms in the main wing and two storeys, with the upper half set in the roof. The framing consists of three panels high, with low tension braces in the gable and one in the main facade.

There is a timber-framed, gabled porch over a boarded door, with another boarded door to the left. A small lean-to dormer is located immediately to the left, while various scattered windows are present throughout. The gable facing the road has a sash window on each floor, with the lower window having six panes.

Internally, the two rooms closest to the road are separated by a large internal chimney stack. The front door opens directly in front of one hearth, originally leading into a timber lobby. There is a steep segmental head to the door leading to the unheated end room. Both rooms feature heavy chamfers on the ceiling beams, with smaller chamfers and similar stops on the exposed joists. The ceiling beams in the bedroom nearest the road are also chamfered, and there is a collar truss with the principal rafter jointed directly to the wall post, with a stud set slightly inside.
