Description
Gaston House is a detached house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed, unsquared rubble stone, with a tiled roof. The house is arranged in an 'L' shape, with two storeys. The front facade has three windows on each outer face, and the roof is gabled at the ends and hipped at the corner. A door is positioned off-centre to the left, with a peaked hood supported by brackets above it. Flanking the door are three-light timber casement windows, lacking lintels. Above the door are two two-light windows, with a single-light window positioned between them. Several of the casement windows feature iron frames, with two catches, a knob for closing, and a hook for holding them open. A two-light window, half-shuttered and half-leaded, is located in the right return gable, giving access to a loft. A single-storey extension with a loft is attached to the side. Inside, a large fireplace spans the corner in one of the corner rooms. The interior was not inspected. Gaston House demonstrates group value in illustrating 18th-century domestic architecture in the area.
