Farmhouse. Early and mid-C17 with partial mid-C19 rebuilding. Timber framed with painted brick nogging on red sandstone plinth, a small part rebuilt in brick painted to represent framing; slate roofs. Framing: small square panels (5 from sole plate to wall plate) with long straight tension brace. Large square panels (3 from sole plate to wall plate) with short straight corner brace. T-plan; large baffle-entry range of 2 framed bays with gabled cross wing of 2 framed bays. 2 storeys and attic. South (garden) front: hall range with large brick ridge stack off-centre to right, 2 gabled eaves dormers with 2-light small- paned casements, and rooflight to left. Two pairs of small-paned first- floor wooden casements to left and C19 three-light segmental-headed wooden-framed metal casement to right; central ground-floor C19 three- light wooden casement, small C20 wooden casement to left and C19 three- light segmental-headed window to right. Boarded door between first and second windows from right with projecting late C19 brick porch and outbuilding in front. Right-hand gable end has collar and tie- beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. Projecting cross wing to left with integral brick lateral stack to left and collar and tie- beam truss with queen struts in gable; first-floor C20 three-light small-paned wooden casement and pair of ground-floor C20 small-paned French casements. One storey and attic C18 and C19 brick service wing set back to right. North (entrance) front: 2 dormers. Hall range with C19 and C20 two- and 3-light small-paned wooden casements; C20 door with early C19 doorcase consisting of pierced panelled pilaster strips and shaped brackets supporting triangular pediment. Cross wing with small-paned 2-light attic casements, probably C18 first-floor horizontal-sliding glazing bar sashes and ground-floor C20 two-light casement. Sun fire insurance plate above west door of cross wing (No. 648143). Interior: chamfered ceiling beams, cross-beamed in cross wing. Large open fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel. Old dog- leg wooden staircase with rectangular balusters; winder stair to attic.
