Description
The sundial located on the South Terrace at Haileybury and Imperial Service College dates from around 1903 and was designed by Reginald Blomfield. It is made of Portland stone and features a circular inscribed bronze top plate and gnomon. The sundial stands on two circular steps and is topped by a tall circular stone urn that sits on a square base. The urn is adorned with four winged hearts carved around its body, and it has bead-and-reel necking along with an acanthus-carved circular cornice leading to a moulded table. The urn is approximately 1.5 meters tall and bears the inscription 'E DONO ARTVRI G. BVTLER MAGISTRI 1862 - 1867'. This sundial is part of the formal southern front of the college.
