Description

The sundial located in the inner courtyard at Sidney Hill Cottage Homes is a Grade II listed structure, dated 1907. It was created by Silcock and Reay. The sundial features a square brick base with a limestone mid course and cornice. The stone shaft rises to a height of 4.5 metres and develops from four consoles. It has a hexagonal shaft topped with a square sundial and a ball finial. The sundial faces are adorned with bronze plates, and the base includes additional bronze plates inscribed with the words: "With Warning Hand I Mark Time's Rapid Flight/From Life's Clad Morning To Its Solemn Night/Yet Through The Dear God's Love I Also Show/There's Light Above Me By The Shade Below." This sundial was erected at the expense of Sidney Hill of Langford House.
