Description
Red House, located at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, is a school building constructed in 1896, likely designed by Reginald Blomfield. Originally serving as the servants' quarters near the kitchen block of the Main Quad, it was converted into masters' quarters by Herbert Baker in the 1930s. The building accommodated the first intake of girls in 1973. It features red brick construction with a steep red tile hipped roof, standing two storeys high with attics and a five-window front facing east. The structure has an offset plinth and tall recessed panels that extend through both storeys to a flat gauged brick arch above the windows on each floor. The recessed sash windows have a 6/9 pane configuration. There are rusticated gauged brick quoins and a continuous band just above the gauged arches. A wide wooden bracketed cornice adorns the oversailing eaves. The central round-topped gable features a Palladian motif dormer window with stone coping and three decorative balls, while a hipped two-light dormer interrupts the cornice on the side.
