Description

South Terrace, terrace walls, and steps at Haileybury and Imperial Service College were built between 1806 and 1809 by William Wilkins for the Honourable East India Company as part of the main south front of East India College. The structure is made of yellow brick and stone. It features a broad raised terrace along the south front, which has two projecting square bastions aligned with the open porticos. Each bastion is accessed by two flights of stone steps that run along the wallface and are flanked by outer parapet walls. The walls are topped with simple heavy stone copings, making this an essential part of the neo-classical architectural design.
