Description
Nos. 52 and 54 Crib Street is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and was altered in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and has a colourwashed pebbledashed plaster exterior above a brick plinth. It features an old tiled roof and a large brick chimneystack on the right, which also serves No. 50. The house is two storeys tall.
On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century leaded light casements, one with four lights and the other with three lights. The first floor has two two-light windows, along with two irregularly placed small leaded windows on the right. One of these windows is next to the jettied overhanging first floor of No. 50 and provides light to a recess adjacent to the fireplace in the front bedroom of No. 50.
There is a half-glazed entrance door on the right leading to No. 52 and a modern glazed entrance door to No. 54 located in a single-storey extension on the left. The building possibly started as a hall house, with No. 50 serving as the cross-wing.
