Description

Nos. 18 and 20 Manor Road is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. The building dates from the 17th century, with No. 18 being the original structure, which was extended in the late 17th century. It was later truncated on the left side and divided into two cottages around 1900.

No. 18 features a timber frame with a middle rail and roughcast infill, set on a plinth of limestone rubble. The right side wall is made of uncoursed limestone rubble, with dressed quoins and a band. No. 20 is constructed from coursed limestone rubble. The roof is gabled and covered with 20th-century tiles, with a stone ridge and left end stacks finished in 17th-century brick.

The building has a four-unit plan, now reduced to three units, and consists of one storey and an attic, with a three-window range. No. 18 has a 19th-century one-light leaded casement above a late 19th-century plank door with an arched head. To the left, there is a late 19th-century door and a 20th-century window, while to the right are 20th-century casements and early 20th-century gabled half dormers. The rear features one- and two-light leaded casements. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The building is included for its group value.
