Description
Nos. 26 and 28 High Street is a house that has been converted into a pair of cottages. It dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and an extension added in the 20th century. The building is constructed of witchert, which is colourwashed and roughcast, sitting on a rubblestone plinth that incorporates a 15th-century cruck truss. The original thatched roof has been replaced with a plain tile roof.
The structure consists of three bays and is 1½ storeys high. No. 26 features a single-storey hipped roof addition, while No. 28 includes two west bays, with the left-hand bay being a modern addition. The windows are mostly 2-light casements with leaded glass. The south elevation has three windows and three dormers. A 17th-century brick stack is located between the west bays and at the east gable. There are two doors on the north side. Inside, the medieval cruck truss is visible on the party wall, and No. 26 has a large open fireplace. The original bays feature chamfered and stopped spine beams.
