Description
4 and 6 (The Old Bakehouse) on St Lawrence Road is a house that has been converted into two cottages. The building dates from the early 17th century for No. 4, which was extended to the left in the late 17th century. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble, with a weatherboard gable on the right. The left end features a brick stack, while the original end stack on the ridge has been finished in brick. The structure has a two-unit plan and is one storey with an attic, presenting a three-window range.
No. 6 has a 20th-century porch and door, which are flanked by timber lintels over 18th-century two-light leaded casements. Above, there is a three-light leaded dormer casement. A bake-oven projection separates No. 4 from No. 6, which has a 20th-century door and casement, with a dormer casement above. Inside No. 6, there are stop-chamfered beams and a queen-post roof. The interior of No. 4 has not been inspected.
