Description
The Brick Barn at Lodge Farm is a 16th-century barn that was cased in brick in 1963. It features a timber frame surrounded by red brick walls and has a steeply pitched roof, which was thatched until around 1938 and is now covered with corrugated iron. The barn is tall, with four bays and a single aisle, facing west. It has double doors in the south gable and an aisle on the east side. Notable architectural features include jowled posts with heavy curved braces supporting the tie beams and arcade plate. The roof is supported by curved splayed queen-posts without collars, which hold purlins at the junction with the principal rafter. The aisle roof has separate rafters, and the arcade plate features an edge-halved scarf joint with bridled butts.
