Description

This architectural fragment is located in the Japanese garden at Garden House, 10 meters to the west-north-west of the house. It dates from the mid-19th century and is said to be from Barry's Palace of Westminster, having been relocated here after being displaced during a Fenian outrage in 1932. The fragment is made of carved freestone and features a large octagonal drum. Each face of the drum is intricately carved in relief with a coat of arms associated with the royal family, topped with a coronet.
