Description
The Spirit Bridge in the Japanese Garden at Garden House was built in 1912 by Enomoto in Japan for Herbert Goode, a wealthy glass and china merchant who created the Japanese Garden between 1905 and 1926. This timber bridge, which is partly painted, features an arched design and narrow wooden structure with four-bay twin-rail balustrades that are partly infilled. Each side has four main posts topped with onion-shaped finials. The bridge spans the narrow part of Fox Lake and is inspired by the sacred bridge at Nikko in Japan, known as SHIN-KYO (Spirit Bridge).
