Description
Ridge Hill Farm Barn is a 16th-century barn that was re-clad in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features an aisled timber frame with five bays. The southwest front is covered in weatherboarding, while the other sides are made of stone rubble with red brick dressings. The roof is half hipped and has plain tiles, with a central cart entrance that includes double doors and a corrugated iron pentice on the southwest front. The northeast front has a smaller opening that does not extend above the aisle wall plate, and there is a window opening inserted in the southeast end.
Inside, the barn has gunstock jowled posts set in wood and brick padstones, along with passing braces. The square section crown posts each have two curved foot braces connecting to the tie beam and two head braces supporting the collar beam. Secondary ingled queen struts were likely added in the late 18th or early 19th century for structural stability. The barn also features through purlins.
