Description
The Town House is a block of three almshouses that has been converted into a single residence. It was built in 1767 for Reverend Angel Chauncy, who donated £200 to create housing for the poor, replacing properties in the churchyard. The building is constructed of red brick with black headers, featuring fine red brick dressings, a dentilled eaves cornice, rusticated stone quoins, and a central cartouche. It has a steep old red tile roof that extends as a catslide over the continuous rear outshut. The structure is one and a half storeys high and faces east, displaying a symmetrical front with a central door beneath a stone cartouche that is carved with arms. There are six windows, which were originally doors, and they feature segmental arches above two-light headed casements. The building also has three hipped dormers, similar to those at the rear, and two central red brick chimneys.
