Description

The Bell Public House is a building that originally served as a house, dating from the early 18th century, with a low 19th century extension to the east. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and has a steep thatched roof, which is half-hipped at the eastern end. The eastern extension is plastered and has a slated roof, while a flat-roofed rear extension is not of special interest. The building is one and a half storeys tall, facing north, with a one-storey eastern extension. Inside, there is a west gable chimney with a winding stair beside it and an external chimney located at the southeast corner. A cellar is present under the eastern part of the main building. The front of the building has four windows and a plank door next to the second window from the left. The windows are small paned flush casement types, and there is an eyebrow dormer at the eaves. The eastern extension features a seven-light window. Inside, the building retains exposed timbers and floor structure. It was once a wheelwright's house and also operated as The Chequers Public House.
