Description
Lower Farm is a house dating from the 16th century that has been restored and extended to the east, with a porch added in the 1930s. The building features a timber frame set on a red brick sill, roughcast walls, and a steep thatched hipped roof. It is two stories high with a three-cell layout and a central chimney, facing south, and includes a later axial extension to the east. A former unheated service room on the west side has been incorporated into the hall. Inside, there is a chamfered cross-beam with bar-stops and tension braces, and large open fireplaces that are back-to-back. The floor over the parlour has been partly removed, creating an open space up to the roof. The front of the house has two eyebrow dormers and a quarter-hipped thatched porch with a moulded plank door and two small windows beneath an old oak collar. The windows are oak mullioned, with two and three lights, and have been renewed with iron leaded casements. There is also a lean-to under a thatched catslide at the east end and a large red brick panelled chimney on the front wall.
