Description
The Old Forge is a house with origins in the 17th century. It was raised to two storeys and divided into two houses in the late 18th century or early 19th century, before being converted back into a single house in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is plastered, with the western half covered in weatherboarding. It has an old red tile roof with a shared central chimney. The structure is long and narrow, facing south, with a lobby entry located by the central chimney. The 18th-century layout consists of two units, each containing a large heated room and a narrow inner room with a staircase. An axial beam supports the upper floor, and purlin-ends from the old roof still project. The house is two storeys high with four windows on the upper floor. The windows are small, two-light flush casements with small panes. There are also two three-light flush casement windows flanking a battened door in the middle. Additionally, there is a boarded door leading into the room at the west end and a small window in the east end room.
