Description
A range of houses, likely dating back to the 17th century or earlier, was altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The houses are now four separate dwellings. They have timber frames with brick sills and are roughcast, with dark weatherboarded aprons. The roofs are steeply pitched and thatched. Numbers 1 (at the East end), 3, and 4 are one and a half storeys high, with eyebrow dormers set into the eaves. Number 2 is two storeys high; all the houses face North. Central chimneys and axial floor beams are present throughout. Number 1 has a large central chimney with a brick oven projecting towards the front, flanked by two-light flush casement windows with lattice leading. A plank door is located near each end of the front elevation. The East gable is half-hipped and faced in red brick up to the wallplate. Number 2 is taller and has a central chimney that rises through the rear roof slope, heating the East room and the staircase located to the North of it and to the West of the entrance. The front elevation of number 2 has two flush Yorkshire sliding casement windows on each floor, along with a plank door beside each of the lower windows. The lower houses to the West have four dormers, three chimneys, three plank doors, and a front outshut in the Northwest corner. The overall appearance is very picturesque.
