Description

Two houses, originally built in the 17th century or earlier, and subsequently heightened and subdivided into four separate dwellings. The southern half of the building was raised to two storeys in the 18th or 19th century, and each property now has rear extensions. The structure is timber framed, with a projecting sill, and has been roughcast, though the ground floor of number 9 has a painted brick front. The roofs are steeply pitched and covered in red tiles.

The building consists of a long, two-storey range facing the road to the west, with two-storey gabled rear extensions and further low outbuildings with catslide roofs. The southern part (numbers 11 and 13) was originally built as a three-room house with an internal chimney located a third of the way from the north end. A later chimney has been added to the rear roof slope. The front shows the original eaves height at the sill level of the first-floor windows, and a reused rafter at the south gable has sprocket holes on the side near its base. The northern half (numbers 7 and 9) was always two storeys high, with a lower, half-hipped crosswing at the north end. Flat rafters are visible at the eaves. The north end has a weatherboarded gablet above the ridge of the north crosswing, extending to the rear, with a central internal chimney. A rear-wall chimney is located at the angle between the wings. The west-facing elevation has five windows on the first floor, seven on the ground floor, and four doors. A tiled hood shelters the door of number 7. The windows are flush two-light casements. A dripboard connects the heads of the doors of numbers 7 and 9, and two intervening windows.
