Description
Farm buildings at Walnut Tree Farm date from the 17th century or earlier for the eastern range, and the lower 18th century for the northern range. They are timber framed on brick sills, with the eastern range featuring dark weatherboarding on the north and south ends and the west side, while much of the east side has an exposed frame with sandy red brick infill. The northern wall of the northern range, which faces the lane to the north, is made of chequered red and black brickwork, with a course of clunch masonry at the eaves. The eastern range has a corrugated asbestos roof, while the northern range has a red tiled roof and is open fronted on the south side. This L-shaped group of buildings is located at the entrance to the yard, with the higher eastern range of barns and storehouses facing east. There is a lower open fronted six-bay cattle shed adjoining at the northwest, extending to the west with a back wall on the roadside. The barn at the northern part of the eastern range features jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, a mid-height rail jointed in-line, and straight tension braces, along with vent holes in the northern gable.
