Description

Ribford Cottage is an early 19th-century house located on the east side of Standon Barwick Road in Hanging Wood. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a diaper pattern on the rear west wall facing the road, and has an old red tile roof. The cottage has a two-room layout with a central staircase, an internal gable stack at the south end, and a smaller external chimney at the northwest corner, which was likely added later.

The building is two stories high and has a symmetrical front with two windows facing east. The windows are small, two-light gothic cast iron casements, with the lower ones having segmental arches adorned with blue headers. A central boarded door is accessed by two steps and is sheltered by a tiled lean-to open porch supported by posts. There is a single-storey tiled brick extension on the south side and a 20th-century single-storey tiled boarded extension at the southeast. The cottage features plain bargeboards and a gothic cast iron casement window on each floor of the north gable. Ribford Cottage contributes to the character of the area by creating a dramatic narrowing of the road near Hanging Cover Cottage. It is included for its group value.
