Description

The farmhouse, originally dating to the mid 16th century, with a west range added in the 17th century, was carefully restored around 1966. It is constructed with a timber frame exposed on the front and rear walls, with plastered panels, and a red brick sill. The rear wing, facing north, is plastered. The building has old red tiled hipped roofs.

It is an early three-unit lobby entry house with a central chimney and a continuous side-jetty along the front (east). A two-storey timber-frame extension from the 17th century projects to the rear, featuring three half-hipped gables along the rear wall. The front elevation incorporates three three-light leaded casement windows on each floor, which are replacements. A wide arched wooden doorway is flanked by a small three-light diamond-mullioned original window above the door. The jetty features bull-nosed joists and heavy knee-braces. A 20th-century red brick and tile lean-to has been added at the south end, incorporating two hipped dormers. The roof is a clasped purlin construction, with curved wind braces, collars, and curved braces to tie beams. The original four-bay structure has the north bay partitioned as a parlour. The walls feature close studding with internal tension braces. Several original diamond mullioned windows retain shutter grooves. The central bay is distinguished by chamfers and hollow stops on both the axial beam and joists, and there are holes for bearers of a dais bench. Short edge-halved scarf joints with bridled butts are present. The 17th-century wings are constructed of lighter timbering.
