Description
This farmhouse at Dowsetts Farm dates from the early 17th century, with the south and west sides encased in brick in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame on a plastered brick sill. The north wing has exposed framing with plastered panels below, painted brick nogging above, and weatherboarding on the gable. The north single-storey outshut, which may have been a separate kitchen, has 17th-century brickwork. The south front and west wing are faced with red brick, while the north outshut is plastered. The house has steep old red tile roofs, hipped on the south range, and is L-shaped with two storeys. It has a three-unit central-chimney plan, with a tall moulded 17th-century chimney serving the hall and parlour on the west side. The front has four windows featuring recessed sash windows with 4/8 panes on the upper floor and 8/8 panes on the ground floor, all with segmental arches. There is a recessed pilastered doorcase within a 20th-century gabled glazed porch, and a casement window on the north wing with a side-purlin roof.
