Description
This milestone, located next to the southeast corner of Inglenook Cottage on Cambridge Road in Colliers End, dates from around 1742 and was created for the Wadesmill Turnpike Trust. The original inscription has been covered by an iron lettered plate, added around 1804, possibly designed by McAdam. The milestone is made of white freestone and features a cast iron front plate. It is a low square pillar, measuring about 400mm square and 750mm high, topped with a segmental curved design and a raised bead around the plate. The inscription reads 'LONDON/25/WARE/4/BUNTINGFORD/6', with the first and last words presented in raised segmental arcs.
