Description

The farmhouse at Fisher's Farm is a building that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with the northern wing from the 16th century or early 17th century and the southern wing from the early 17th century. It underwent renovations in the early 19th century. The structure features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with weatherboarding and a plastered northern end and rear, all topped with steep old red tile roofs. Originally a late medieval open hall house facing east, it now stands at one and a half storeys due to the insertion of a floor and has a central chimney stack from the 17th century at the upper end of the hall. The southern end bay may have already been floored. The early 17th-century southern wing includes a large central chimney with three stumpy diagonal shafts that have been reduced in height. The eastern room serves as a kitchen, while the western room is an unheated service room. There are two fireplaces in the stack on the first floor. The early 19th-century stair hall is located in the southern bay of the hall range. The eastern front has three windows, with a gabled dormer in the center and a door at the southern end of the hall section. The windows are flush box sash types with 8/8 panes. The entrance features a six-panel flush beaded door with the top panels glazed, surrounded by a simple frame and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The central chimney has a tall diagonal shaft with rebated corners and a corbelled head, similar to the door on the northern end. There is also a two-light Yorkshire sliding casement window in the rear upper part of the northern wing, and the roof structures are side-purlin.
