Description
Inglenook Cottage and The Post House, located north of the Lamb and Flag Public House, are two houses that were originally a house and outbuildings from the late 17th century. They were altered in the 19th century to serve as a shop and house, and later modified into houses in the late 20th century. The structure features a timber frame encased in brick and plaster, topped with a steep roof covered in dark brown tiles. The main house, which faces east, has two storeys and includes four windows with a door situated between the left pair of windows. The windows are recessed sash types with three-over-three panes. There is a projecting chimney with offsets on the south gable and an internal gable stack on the north side, which supports a large open fireplace. Inside, the building showcases exposed joists and axial beams in the floor, along with a winding stair located in the southeast corner. At the rear, there is a two-storey timber-frame weatherboarded range of outbuildings with steep pantiled roofs, partly faced with 18th-century brick on the north side and continuously on the south side. This section includes a separate house known as The Post House, which features casement windows and a gabled porch. The prominent L-shaped block is significant to the street scene and is included for its group value.
