Description

This milestone, located near Corney Bury, dates from around 1742 and was created for the Wadesmill Turnpike Trust. The face of the milestone is covered by an iron plate added around 1804, likely designed by McAdam. It is made of white freestone and stands about 50 cm tall, featuring a square pillar with a large front iron plate. The plate has a segmental curved top and a raised edge-bead. The inscription on the plate reads, 'LONDON/32/BUNTINGFORD/1/ROYSTON/6', with the first and second words raised in segmental arcs.
